Blackstone Valley. Recognizing the impact
of soaring gas prices on the area’s tourism industry, the Blackstone
River Valley Tourism Collaborative announced a $1,000 gas give-a-way
drawing today to encourage visitors to come to the Blackstone River
Valley during its Footsteps in History Preserve America weekend October
8, 9 and 10.
“We want people to
experience our historic and cultural sites and to enjoy the open
houses, artistic and interpretive programs, festivals and much more
that we have planned between Worcester, Massachusetts and Providence,
Rhode Island on Columbus Day Weekend,” Robert Billington, President of
the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council explained. “We expect gas prices
to remain high so we are giving people a chance to enter a drawing to
win $1,000 in gas. Visitors can enter once at each of our
participating sites so that’s nearly 150 chances to win!”
“We’ve been planning this weekend
for so long and we realized that we can’t afford it if visitors have
to choose not to experience the Blackstone Valley due to high gas
prices,” Billington added. “We are very concerned about the impact
this could have on visitation that we are taking drastic measures –
one of them being this drawing -- to ensure a successful weekend for
all of our sites and participants.”
Known as the Birthplace of
America’s Industrial Revolution, the Blackstone River Valley’s 24
communities were designated by President and Mrs. Bush as Preserve
America communities in 2004. To highlight this proud achievement, the
region’s Blackstone River Valley Tourism Collaborative developed
Footsteps in History to make all historical and cultural sites open and
available to the public with open houses, artistic and interpretive
programs, festivals and much more during this three-day fall weekend.
For more information and a complete
listing of participating sites and organizations, use this website or
call Veronica Cadoppi, Program Coordinator at 401-724-2200.
The Blackstone River Valley Tourism
Collaborative is comprised of the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, the
Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the John H. Chafee Blackstone
River Valley National Heritage Corridor.
