One-Woman Play Honors Abolitionist & Women’s Rights Activist,
Abbey Kelly Foster
Performance is 3rd of 24 “Footsteps In History” Weekend Events
taking place now through November.

UXBRIDGE, MASS. (June 17, 2007) – A special one-woman performance of “Yours for Humanity - Abby” will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 17 at the Historic Quaker Meetinghouse in South Uxbridge. This is the third of 24 cultural events taking place every weekend leading up to the 3rd Annual Footsteps in History Columbus Day Weekend program, the year’s largest showcase of the Blackstone River Valley’s cultural and historical attractions.

This one-women play about Abby Kelley Foster, based on her letters and published speeches, celebrates one of New England’s most extraordinary women, a person William Lloyd Garrison called “the moral Joan of Arc of the world.” Abby dedicated her life to social justice, most notably to end race and gender prejudice.

Richard Frechette, President of the Meetinghouse Association, noted that it is particularly fitting for this play to be presented at the Quaker Meetinghouse in Uxbridge, as Abby worshipped there as a child and young adult.

This play is produced and presented by activist and actor Lynne McKenney Lydick of Worcester. It is a production of the Worcester Women’s History Project, and this particular presentation is supported by a grant from the Uxbridge Cultural Council.

The meetinghouse is located at the intersection of Quaker Highway (Route 146) and Aldrich St. (Route 98). For more information, contact Richard Frechette (401-769-4433; Richard.Frechette@cox.net)
